A Langley family is "relieved and grateful" after police arrested and removed a man described as "armed and dangerous" from their garage late Friday night.

The Lower Mainland's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced Saturday that 33-year-old Barry James McQuarrie was taken into custody just after 11:30 p.m. PT.

McQuarrie had four outstanding warrants against him — charges of theft over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, and failing to comply with a probation order — and police were also seeking him in connection with a recent homicide.

No charges have been laid against McQuarrie in the death of 32-year-old Gregory Quesnelle in May, but IHIT says it is recommending a charge of first degree murder in that case.

Quesnelle, originally from southern Ontario, was found with gunshot wounds in a townhouse in Surrey's Cloverdale neighbourhood on May 12. He was pronounced dead shortly after, and police launched a manhunt for McQuarrie.

Police said the shooting was likely a domestic incident, and did not appear to be linked to the drug trade or organized crime.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound said on Saturday that police could not discuss further evidence or specifics about the homicide case at this time.
