KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The superintendent of the Kamloops school district says a teacher has been killed in a traffic accident in British Columbia's eastern Fraser Valley.

The tragedy occurred Monday afternoon when police say a minivan carrying a father, mother and two sons lost control in the slush on the Trans-Canada Highway near Hope, hit a ditch, flipped on its side and submerged in the water.

Police say the 43-year-old female passenger was cut from her seatbelt and resuscitated but later died in hospital.

Kamloops school Supt. Terry Sullivan says the passenger was 43-year-old Jennifer Swan, a Grade 3 teacher who had taught at an arts school for 10 years.

He says Swan's death is a great loss for the district because she had a bright future ahead of her and was going to be one of the district's school leaders.

Just 14 months ago, fellow Kamloops teachers Skye and Courtney Buck died when a vehicle plunged 30 metres down and embankment and into the North Thompson River, south of Clearwater.
