QUEBEC - Quebec has given a thumbs down to the new federal budget.

Finance Minister Nicolas Marceau says it doesn't advance any of the issues the province has been negotiating with the federal government.

"There is no progress on a number of very important files that we have been pushing and trying to get solutions for," Marceau said at a late-afternoon news conference on Tuesday.

"That's the case for training, that's the case for (the) securities commission, that's the case for infrastructure. No progress and even some cutbacks, I would say."

He also accused the federal government of intruding in provincial jurisdictions in several cases.

"The federal government has put in place an environment in which there will be no financial pressure on itself but there will be a lot of pressure on us. This is the world we're living in now."

Marceau said Quebec is probably not the only province unhappy with the budget.

"I think it's the case for all provinces," he said. "Those problems with infrastructure, that's a problem for Quebec but that's also a problem for all provinces that no progress has been achieved."
