CLEARWATER, B.C. - Animal-protection officers have seized 16 "badly neglected" dogs and two quarter-horses from a rural property in B.C.'s Interior.
Const. Kent Kokoska of the B.C. SPCA says officers also found two deceased dogs and one deceased calf on the property in Clearwater, B.C., which is about 470 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
Kokoska says the standard poodles and golden-retriever crosses were badly neglected, severely matted and living in unacceptable conditions.
He says the horses were also living in substandard conditions, were severely matted and had cracked and chipped hooves.
Kokoska says the RCMP alerted the SPCA to the case, and the agency is continuing its investigation.
He says SPCA facilities in Penticton and Kelowna are looking after the dogs, while the horses are now in Kamloops.
