Canadian Dollar Up Before TSX Open

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar rose about half a U.S. cent Monday morning.

The loonie was up 0.52 of a U.S. cent at 82.69 cents US in late morning trade.

The Toronto stock market's S&P/TSX composite index was down 9.39 points at 15,398.94, after edging 15.98 points higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 39.51 points at 18,119.65, the Nasdaq index rose 8.13 points to 5,100.21, and the S&P 500 advanced 2.94 points to 2,120.63.

On the commodity markets, the June crude contract was down 10 cents US$57.05 a barrel and the June gold contract rose $9.60 to US$1,184.60 an ounce after the TSX open.
