From the people who brought you E. Coli-laced maple bacon jam comes a $900 cupcake that is as rich as the few who can afford it.
Lisa Sanguedolce of Le Dolci Cupcakes and Cakes recently took an order from a man who wanted a special birthday pastry for his wife, The Toronto Sun reported.
Its ingredients would be more suited to a royal ball than a bake shop.
The ritzy cupcake had a pastry cream filling that is made with Krug Collection Brut Champagne, which costs around $1,000 a bottle, The Globe and Mail reported.
Its frosting was made with butter from Normandy, France and chocolate from Amedei, a Tuscan company whose products have been ranked among the most expensive in the world.
It was decorated with a gold-painted branch, fondant flowers and a little dropper that contained 21-year-old Courvoisier, which was to be sprinkled over the cupcake before it was eaten.
The pastry sat in a chocolate cup that was adorned with 24-karat gold flakes and sugar diamonds.
Sanguedolce told the Sun that the bakery had made cakes for over $1,000 before, but nothing like this.
