Be prepared for bad allergy season, experts say

Allergy sufferers might be suffering more than usual this year, thanks to the cold, damp weather. Researcher Frances Coates says this spring's tree pollen levels are at their lowest levels in years.

The trees, Coates told CBC News, are holding back because of the poor weather.

That means — rather than being released gradually — all that pollen could come out in one big wallop, once the weather turns.

"It'll be a shorter season," said allergist Dr. Mark Greenwald, "but the load of allergenic material that the allergic person has to deal with will be dumped on them very quickly."
