The Coquihalla Highway will be closed between Hope and Merritt, B.C., for scheduled helicopter avalanche control work between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. PT on Tuesday.
Transportation Minister Todd Stone said the highway has received a significant amount of snow since avalanche crews blasted it on Saturday.
"There is no question that every hour this highway is closed there is an impact to our economy, which is why beyond safety, the next most important consideration is to get the highway open," he said.
The scheduled blasting follows several unplanned closures of the highway over the past week due to high avalanche risk.
Detours are available through Highway 1 at Kamloops, Highway 1 or 3 at Hope, and Highway 8 and Highway 1 at Merritt.
The scheduled avalanche control work is subject to change, so drivers are being advised to check the Ministry of Transportation's DriveBC website for updates.
