Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for strong winds tonight in Toronto and the surrounding areas.
Winds are reported to be gusting to as much as 80 km/h this evening as a result of a low pressure system over Northern Ontario giving strong southwesterly winds to the southern portion of the province.
“These winds are strong enough to result in difficult driving conditions especially for motorists on highways subject to strong and gusty crosswinds,” the statement read.
The weather agency says the winds will ease a little bit by Saturday, but it will feel colder.
Temperatures are also expected to drop on the weekend to once again below freezing.
The winds have already caused delays and cancelled flights at Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport. There are also reports passengers have been unable to get to the mainland from the airport due to winds being too dangerous for travel aboard the Porter ferry boats.
