21-year-old Marvin Benitez of Burnaby has been identified as the young man found Thursday on a pathway near the Lougheed Skytrain station.
Benitez was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at a local hospital.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team issued a statement last week saying that the Burnaby RCMP had secured the area near Austin Avenue and Lougheed Highway which was being treated as a homicide scene.
IHIT says the death is not the result of a random attack and does not appear to be gang related. However, it is not releasing any information on the cause of death, injuries or motive.
"IHIT continues to work with investigators from the Burnaby RCMP to piece together the story of what occurred on Thursday evening." Sgt. Adam MacIntosh said in a written statement.
IHIT is asking anyone with information related to Benitez's death to give them a call on the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
