RCMP are investigating the discovery of a man's body at the Sandman Inn on Edwards Drive in Richmond, B.C.

Police say shortly after 9 p.m. PT on Saturday, police were called to the hotel by restaurant staff who found the body in the hotel parking lot.

The body is that of a man of Asian descent believed to be in his late 20's or early 30's.

The RCMP's serious crimes unit is investigating, but the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which is usually called out for murder investigations, is not yet involved.

Richmond RCMP Corporal Stephanie Ashton says the hotel parking lot is a busy area with lots of traffic and the body could not have been there long.

Not yet suspicious

Police will not speculate on cause of death and Ashton says she's not even sure the discovery can be classified as suspicious.

Richmond RCMP say they are trying to identify the man and ask anyone who may know anything, or has had someone they know not come home, to give them a call.
