A Toronto woman who had been detained in Cuba following an accident that claimed the life of her three-year-old son was released and able to attend his funeral today.
Justine Davis and her three-year-old son, Cameron, were in Cayo Largo during the holidays.
They were hit by a truck while riding a motorized scooter. Cameron was killed.
Davis wasn't allowed to leave the country under Cuban law, until the investigation was complete, though Cameron's body was sent home to Canada.
Weeks passed and still Davis was detained.
Family and friends then organized an online campaign that received thousands of signatures — putting pressure on Ottawa and Cuba to release the woman in time for her son’s funeral.
Davis was finally released this past week and was able to attend Cameron’s funeral at the full St. Chad Parish Saturday, where everyone wore a Spider-man pin, Cameron’s favourite superhero.
