Somewhere an intern just got fired.
In Monday's episode of "Chelsea Lately," host Chelsea Handler was apparently talking about Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov's remarks that his city housed zero gay people. The problem? The show posted a photo of Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson instead. A mean-looking photo, no less.
Oops.
A woman in Victoria took a picture of her TV, which she posted on Twitter, proving the mix-up:
A Vancouver man named William Muller also noticed the mistake, and wrote on Chelsea Handler's Facebook page to point it out.
"While discussing the mayor of Sochi's ridiculous statement his city has no gay residents on today's show a picture of Vancouver's mayor Gregor Robertson was shown," Muller wrote. "The fact that the Canadian flag was shown behind the mayor obviously didn't clue in the producers of the show."
It was Mayor Robertson himself, however, who said it best by simultaneously defending himself and poking fun at Handler's book "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea."
Robertson is, as locals know, an avid supporter of LGBTQ rights, supporting openly gay Councillor Tim Stevenson's bid to attend the Olympics in Sochi.

Big time fail to the @chelsealately staff for thinking @MayorGregor was the Mayor of Sochi, Russia. #Vancouver pic.twitter.com/JT91DYeKKq

Are you there @chelsealately? It's me @mayorgregor. Mayor of #Vancouver (not #Sochi) and proud to support #LGBTQ rights!
