An undisclosed number of students in Kamloops, B.C., are under investigation for what police are calling "the alleged exchange of inappropriate material," apparently linked to some sort of online social media activity.
According to a statement issued by the RCMP on Tuesday, the police were called after school district staff learned about the undisclosed activity.
But investigators say due to the age of those involved and the nature of the investigation, they are unable to release any details about the incident.
"At this point it is too early to categorize the nature of this investigation or to comment on any specific details," said the statement issued by Cpl. Cheryl Bush.
"We are dealing with people under the age of 18, and will restrict our comments accordingly, as per legislation."
But the statement did indicate the incident involved online and social media activity.
"The message to parents remains the same, that you need to be engaged with your children’s online and social media activities. This can lead to tough or uncomfortable conversations, but these conversations are critical. "
