MONTREAL — NDP Leader Tom Mulcair says he will have a decision by the end of the day on whether he will participate in more leaders debates during the election campaign.
His team is studying two dozen proposals, but he has said he won't participate unless Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper takes part.
Mulcair urged Harper to agree to the traditional televised debate organized by a consortium of broadcasters — something the prime minister has rejected.
Harper said today that all parties have a right to decide which debates they're going to participate in, and that "when the dust settles we'll have more debates than we've ever had before."
The only leaders' debate confirmed so far in French is scheduled for Oct. 2.
Mulcair has also said there should be an equal number of leaders' debates in English and French.
