Jason Kenney: Trudeau's Policies Just As Bad As His Father's

CALGARY — Jason Kenney says Albertans have not forgotten the disastrous national energy program of the 1980s and says Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau's policies are just as bad as his father's.

Alberta's senior Conservative cabinet minister says the NEP caused thousands of Albertans to lose their livelihoods and their homes when it was brought in by former prime minister Pierre Trudeau.

He says he sees little difference between the former prime minister's stance than that of Justin Trudeau.

Kenney says the current Liberal leader opposes getting Alberta's energy products to global markets and has shown his disdain for Alberta on a number of occasions.

He says Justin and Pierre Trudeau share an "arrogant, anti-Alberta attitude" and voters won't put up with it a second time.

The Liberals did not immediately respond to requests for comment, but Trudeau acknowledged his father's controversial legacy in a speech to an oilpatch audience in Calgary earlier this year.

He said he understands how energy issues can divide the country and he won't repeat the mistakes of his father.
