Joni Mitchell Home After Aneurysm, Is 'Speaking Well': Conservator

UPDATE: Joni Mitchell's friend and conservator Leslie Morris has issued a statement about the star's health on her official webpage. According to Morris, Mitchell is on the mend, and is recovering at home.

She writes: "Joni did in fact suffer an aneurysm. However, details that have emerged in the past few days are mostly speculative. The truth is that Joni is speaking, and she's speaking well. She is not walking yet, but she will be in the near future as she is undergoing daily therapies. She is resting comfortably in her own home and she's getting better each day. A full recovery is expected."

TORONTO—Fellow musical artist David Crosby says in a published report that Canadian folk legend Joni Mitchell is recovering at home but that to the best of his knowledge, “she is not speaking yet.”

In an interview with HuffPost Live, Crosby said it was an aneurysm that sent Mitchell to a Los Angeles hospital.

Crosby said he hasn’t spoken with Mitchell.

Mitchell, 71, was hospitalized on March 31 for undisclosed reasons and the latest post on the singer’s unofficial website — on April 28 — said she was still in the hospital and “a full recovery is expected.”

An attorney told a judge in early May that Mitchell could not confer with doctors about her medical care or long-term treatment.

The assessment by attorney Alan Watenmaker compelled a judge to place the singer-songwriter’s longtime friend in charge of health care decisions for Mitchell.

Superior Court Judge David S. Cunningham III appointed Leslie Morris, Mitchell’s friend for more than 40 years, as the singer’s conservator during a brief hearing on May 4.

In the interview, Crosby praised Mitchell by saying she is “probably the greatest living singer-songwriter — it’s either her of old weird Bob,” a reference to fellow music legend Bob Dylan.
