And it's not only celebrities who have chosen to go this route, according to Cosmopolitan — about five per cent of men in a group of 2,000 couples changed their last names to either the name of their spouse or a hyphenated version of both partners' names.

In Canada, it's a much simpler story. According to EasyNameChange.ca, an organization dedicated to name change notifications, the process for men wanting to change their last names is very similar to the process for women. Individuals can apply for a marriage name change or a legal name change. The latter — which is recommended for men — requires one to legally denounce their prior name.
