Trudeau's Labour Courtship Clashes With Criticism Of NDP Union Office

OTTAWA - Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau's courtship of the labour movement has hit a rocky patch.

He's facing a backlash from labour leaders after Liberals complained earlier this week about parliamentary office space provided by the NDP to their staffers' union local.

Three union leaders have sent angry letters to Trudeau, accusing the Liberals of unfairly dragging the labour movement into a partisan skirmish with the NDP.

And they say the fracas sows doubt about the sincerity of Trudeau's commitment to labour rights.

Trudeau has been making a concerted effort recently to woo support from the labour movement, which has more traditionally aligned with the NDP.

Earlier this week, Liberal MPs joined with Conservatives to complain that New Democrats were improperly using parliamentary resources to provide office space to the union local that represents some 700 New Democrat political staffers.
