Toronto's outgoing police chief has chosen a new career path.
Bill Blair has confirmed in an interview with the Toronto Star that he hopes to be a candidate for the federal Liberals in the fall election.
Blair says he has discussed his future with Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and has decided to seek the Liberal nomination in the riding of Scarborough Southwest where he grew up and raised a family.
The riding is currently held by New Democrat Dan Harris.
The 61-year old Blair spent the past decade as Toronto's top cop, and says he wants to remain in public service, which he considers the "highest calling.''
Toronto's incoming police chief, Mark Saunders, will move into his new office later today.
