The wife of a Mississauga, Ont., senior who died after being struck by a vehicle on the weekend says her husband had been active and healthy up until the day of his death.
Jong Joo Park, 82, left his home on Saturday to go play ping pong at a local community centre, something he normally did three times a week.
But while making his way home that evening, Park was struck at the intersection of Goreway Drive and Morning Side Drive, just steps from the apartment where he lived with his life.
The driver fled the scene.
His wife, Sun Joo Park, said her husband was "very strong" and kept in good shape.
When her husband didn’t come home when she expected on Saturday, she quickly became worried.
She called friends and family, but didn’t know what had happened until police arrived at her door.
Peel Regional Police say they have spoken with witnesses and obtained some surveillance video from nearby businesses.
Investigators believe that Jong Joo Park was likely struck by a Hyundai Genesis.
The vehicle involved in the crash may have windshield or front-end damage as a result of the crash, Const. Thomas Ruttan told CBC News on Monday.
So far, investigators do not have a description of the driver, but they have returned to the scene to canvass for more witnesses.
Sun Joo Park said she is hopeful that police can quickly catch the driver who ended her husband’s life.
