A crush of support from ardent fans of the ‘80s sitcom may turn a New York toymaker’s Lego homage to beloved series into reality.
Samuel Hatmaker, a long-time fan of the show, says his love for the sitcom started at a young age.
“I watched [The Golden Girls] as a child and thought it was funny. Many of the jokes went over my head. I watch it now, and it is still brilliant,” the the 40-year-old New Yorker told Vocativ.
He added he’s amazed at all the attention his project has received in just 48 hours.
The project has attracted over 10,000 supporters — enough to push it through to the next phase called the “Lego Review.”
One of the set’s most impressive aspects is its incredible attention to detail.
“It has been meticulously recreated to have opening cupboards and fridge in the kitchen, wicker sofa and chairs, a hallway backdrop, a storage closet in the kitchen, and an outdoor area with potted plants and a hose,” reads a description.
And Lego certainly seems to think the project has some merit, too.
Now, Lego designers, project managers, and lawyers will pore over the set’s details to determine if licensing rights can be attained and if it’s fit for mass production.
Looking at pictures of the proposed playset, you can almost hear Sophia’s wisecracks and the show’s laugh reel. What’s not to love?
