Thought about your planet lately? Now's the time.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22. It's a chance for people all over the world to participate in activities that help them celebrate Earth, and think about ways they can work to protect the environment.

This year's event is a special one in Canada; it will also mark the launch of Earth Day Every Day, a campaign through which Canadians can use online tools to help them reduce their carbon footprint. The campaign is being promoted by Earth Day Canada, a national environmental charity.

It allows people to track how their actions help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and to share their activities with others. The goal of the initiative is to help Canadians reduce their carbon footprint by 20 per cent by the year 2020, "in line with global emission reduction targets."

Earth Day 2015 is coming weeks after alarming news was revealed about climate change in Canada.

A study published by Nature Geoscience found that glaciers in B.C. and Alberta could shrink by as much as 80 per cent by the next century.

Such a trend could change how much water goes to salmon spawning areas and halt proposals for ski resorts, the study said.

"People driving into Banff or Jasper parks will be hard pressed to see glaciers in the landscape by the time this is played out," said co-author Garry Clarke.

Something to think about. Among other things.
