A Vancouver ballet teacher has been charged with allegedly having sex with an underage student.
Alejandro Vargas Gomez, 49, began teaching at the Goh Ballet Academy in the fall of 2013, said Vancouver police on Wednesday. He's accused of starting a sexual relationship in January outside of the school with a student who was between 16 and 18 years old at the time.
Gomez, who is from Mexico, has been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of luring. He's in custody, pending further investigation, said police.
According to a biography that's been taken off the Goh Ballet website, Gomez was a guest teacher at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and also taught at national dance schools in Mexico.
