AC/DC seemed to be facing its greatest challenge ever earlier this year when founding guitarist Malcolm Young's dementia forced him leave the band. But now AC/DC's Phil Rudd, has been arrested in a murder plot.

The 60-year-old drummer was arrested yesterday in his New Zealand home and has been charged with "attempting to procure a murder," as well as possession of methamphetamine and cannabis, and threatening to kill, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Police are accusing Rudd of attempting to hire a hitman to kill two men. Rudd, who did not enter a plea, has been released on bail and will be back in court in three weeks.

"Bit of a shock, but there you go," was the response from the "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" band's former manager Michael Browning in the Daily Mail.

Rudd is not a founding member, but has been with the band from 1975 until 1983, when he was fired, and then re-joined in 1994. He was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame with his bandmates in 2003.

He will presumably not be joining AC/DC when they hit the road for their next tour in support of upcoming album "Rock or Bust."
