VANCOUVER - Vancouver police are looking for a suspect after a woman was dragged into a car, stabbed and sexually assaulted, leaving her with injuries that required hospitalization.
Police said the 35-year-old victim was attacked Saturday night around midnight in the city's east side.
The woman was walking along a street when she was approached by a man in a vehicle. Police said the man dragged her inside, assaulted her and drove her to another area, where he stabbed and sexually assaulted her.
Const. Brian Montague said the woman was able to fend off the attacker. She was spotted by passing motorists when she stumbled into traffic, he said.
"She's obviously shaken. She's being very co-operative with us but it's obviously a very upsetting time," Montague said Sunday.
"Her injuries are significant."
The woman was still in hospital as of early Sunday afternoon.
Police said it appears the woman was targeted because the assailant believed she was a sex-trade worker.
