A dashboard camera captured images of a suspected gunman getting into his car shortly after shooting a Canadian soldier at the National War Memorial in Ottawa Wednesday.

The gunman, identified as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, was caught on camera at 9:51 a.m., according to the time stamp at the bottom of the video frame. Seconds earlier, he fatally shot Cpl. Nathan Cirillo as he stood at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The footage, submitted to CBC News by an anonymous viewer, shows a man in dark clothes and a white scarf walking around the front of Toyota Corolla on Wellington St. The car's license plates had been removed.

The gunman was later shot dead by Sergeant-At-Arms Kevin Vickers after he entered Parliament's Centre Block.

An investigation remains ongoing. Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expected to make a statement on the attacks at 7:45 p.m.
