JFL42 Amy Schumer Kicks Off The Festival In Side-Splitting Style

If you're not already obsessed with Amy Schumer, now is the chance to get caught up before she gets any more famous -- and believe me, she's going to be huge.

In fact, she's already a major star, and her Friday night sold out JFL42 show proves it. The packed Sony Centre, full of audience members of all ages, basically did not stop laughing from the minute Schumer came on stage, until the standing ovation after her encore.

Schumer endeared herself to the audience right away by calling Toronto "a city I'm considered attractive in," and mocking the bilingual airplane safety demonstration for being way sexier in French.

I'd never seen Schumer live before, and because of my love for her sketch comedy show, "Inside Amy Schumer" on Comedy Central, I had pretty high expectations. I was not disappointed. Schumer showcased all new material, which is such a treat for fans of her work. She also came back out after her set and asked the crowd if anyone had an old favourite they wanted to hear, so the audience got the best of both worlds.

She covered a lot of classic topics, like sex and body image, but all with a fresh and personal twist. She skewered pageant queens, yuppie moms, L.A. casting calls ("Amy, you're here to read for the role of the girl getting gastric-bypass surgery?") and her own body issues.

Schumer is self-deprecating, unapologetic and sometimes raunchy, but she always hits it right on the nose. As she said during a particularly filthy crowd-work segment on the names of obscure sex acts, "If you think this is gross, you're not wrong, but we're having a lot of fun."

Schumer is only 33 years old and already her stand-up act is phenomenal, her TV show is a success, and she's co-written and will star in a movie directed by Judd Apatow to be released in 2015 called "Trainwreck." I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say that Amy Schumer is the funniest woman in show business right now.

Here's a clip from her Comedy Central show, "Inside Amy Schumer." But please be sure to check out her totally NSFW stand-up as well.

I look forward to her having a long and successful career. But maybe a less successful personal life, because man those stories are funny.
