OTTAWA - Health Canada says Homelite and Earthwise 51-centimetre cordless electric lawn mowers are being recalled for a defect that caused at least one injury in Canada.
The agency says if the mower handle is collapsed for storage, the starting cable can be stretched, making it possible to start the mower without the key in place.
The manufacturer, Great States Corporation, has received three incident reports in Canada, including one case in which a person lost three finger tips.
Health Canada says it has not received any consumer reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these mowers.
The recalled mowers are Homelite item number UT13127 (and the UPC code 046396010315) and Earthwise item number 60520 (with UPC code 026479605201).
Health Canada says 394 Homelite lawn mowers were sold at Home Depot stores and 137 Earthwise mowers were sold at Federated Co-op stores.
