Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice reportedly will appeal his indefinite suspension from the NFL.

Rice was released last Monday by the Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the league, mere hours after TMZ Sports released a video of him punching his then-fiancee (now wife) Janay Palmer in a casino elevator earlier this year.

Citing sources, ESPN reported that Rice is expected to file an appeal on Monday. He has until 11:59 p.m. ET Tuesday to do so.

ESPN credited ProFootballTalk.com with reporting Rice's plan to appeal.

The indefinite suspension is a sterner punishment compared to the two-gamer it initially handed him in July, when a video released by TMZ showed Rice dragging Palmer from the elevator.

The most recent video shows Rice punching Palmer and knocking her unconscious, prompting NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to levy more severe discipline because of the violence in the video.

Rice and his wife can be heard shouting obscenities at each other and she appears to spit at Rice right before he throws a brutal punch. After she collapses, he drags her out of the elevator and is met by some hotel staff. One of them can be heard saying, "She's drunk, right?" And then, "No cops."

Rice had been charged with felony aggravated assault in the case. But in May, he was accepted into a pre-trial intervention program that allowed him to avoid jail time and could lead to the charge being purged from his record.

Hours after portions of the video were made public by TMZ, Goodell suspended Rice indefinitely and Baltimore terminated his contract.
