Crews at New Gold's New Afton mine just south of Kamloops are cleaning up after a tailings pond spill.
The company says 16 cubic metres of slurry leaked last night from a pipe valve linking one side of the tailings pond to the other.
A spokesperson for New Gold says the water contained crushed rock and is not toxic.
It's not known how long the cleanup will take, but a spokesperson for the provincial environment ministry says there are no concerns about ground water contamination.
The company says the spill has been contained in a ditch on company property and did not go into the surrounding area.
