More than 4,700 Hydro-Québec customers are still without power, five days after a severe winter storm knocked out electricity to thousands in the southern part of the province.
The majority of the customers still in the dark are in the Eastern Townships.
Marie-Élaine Deveault, spokeswoman for Hydro-Québec, said 800 employees are working around the clock making repairs to the network. She said most customers should have their service restored by this evening.
Across eastern Canada, tens of thousands remain without power.
In Toronto, where more than 300,000 customers were in the dark at the height of the outage, about 32,400 are still waiting for their service to be restored.
Another twelve thousand are without power elsewhere in southern Ontario.
Police officers have been going door-to-door in apartment buildings to ensure residents are okay.
Snow clearing continues
In Montreal, the aftermath of the storm was also testing the capacity of the city's snow clearing crews, who, only a week earlier, had already rolled out in full force to dig the city out after an earlier storm.
The street clearing process was temporarily halted by the holiday in the city, but revved back up Thursday.
Officials continue to warn residents to obey the temporary no parking signs to help speed up the snow removal process.
Light snow is expected to continue today in Montreal as temperatures start to rise.
Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 1C Saturday.
