A 39-year-old man is facing numerous charges after a crime spree over the weekend across the County of Brant.

The sequence of events started early Saturday morning when an officer on patrol found a house on Kitchen School Road fully engulfed in fire around 3:50 a.m., according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Firefighters extinguished the fire. No one was in the home at the time, but the fire destroyed the house, garage and several cars.

Police say the investigation revealed that the home was forcibly entered and set ablaze

Several homes were also broken into near where the fire happened.

Another home, this time on Gulf Road, was "forcibly entered" during the early morning hours of Saturday, police say. Clothing, food and a bike were stolen.

Then, a home on German School Road was broken into and a 2005 Nissan car was stolen.

A breaking and entering was also reported at a Lockie Road home, where the homeowner confronted the suspect, who then ran away.

13 offences

A short time later, a robbery was reported at the Pioneer Gas Bar on Brant Road. The suspect went into the business and demanded money, according to police. A struggled followed and the suspect ran away.

"We don't exactly when everything occurred. All the calls started coming in at the same time," OPP's Cst. Mark Foster told CBC News.

After police near the area were made aware of the descriptions of the suspect and the stolen Nissan car. Brantford City Police located the car and tried to stop it, but the suspect drove away and headed toward Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.

Eventually, at 5:50 a.m., the stolen car was spotted by Six Nations Police Service on the Fourth Line and the suspect was arrested.

Andrew Rentel, of no fixed address, is charged with 13 offences, including dangerous driving, breaking and entering, arson and fail to stop for police.

He is held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing on Monday.
