Two Thetford Mines teenagers are dead after the car they were travelling in went off the road and hit a culvert along Highway 165 near Irlande in the Chaudière-Appalaches region around midnight Tuesday.
Provincial police spokesman Richard Gagné said the driver was only 14 years old — two years shy of the minimum age to get a driver’s licence — and fell asleep at the wheel.
Gagné said speed and alcohol were not factors in the deadly crash.
“The probable cause right now is sleep,” he said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
