The producers of "Degrassi" have come out with a new family mystery that substitutes a high school for a hospital.
Epitome Pictures has just commenced work on "Open Heart," a half-hour series that will unfold in 12 episodes that have been commissioned by YTV and TeenNick, said a news release.
It tells the story of Dylan Blake (Karis Cameron), a rebellious daughter in a family of doctors who wants to solve a mystery at Open Heart Memorial hospital.
Other characters include Dylan's sister London (Tori Anderson), a first-year resident at the facility, as well as Mikayla Walker (Cristine Prosperi), one of the main character's friends, and Timothy "Hud" Hudson (Kevin McGarry), another first-year resident with a bad boy reputation.
"I’ve always enjoyed telling stories about the high school experience," executive producer Linda Schuyler said in a statement.
"With 'Open Heart,' I am looking forward to exploring the drama that can unfold in a completely different environment.”
The producers aren't the show's only connection to the popular high school-set series. Actor Stefan Brogren, who plays Archie "Snake" Simpson in the "Degrassi" universe, is one of two people set to direct.
Writers Ramona Barckerdt and Brendon Yorke have also penned episodes of "Degrassi: The Next Generation."
