The widow of slain Mountie Doug Larche says she's touched by the show of support at the Marathon by the Sea.
Nadine Larche joined more than 1,700 runners and spectators at Sunday's event in Saint John, N.B.
She said it was a special day because Saint John was her husband's hometown.
"I would've given anything in the world to have Doug here again today," she said.
Const. Doug Larche was one of three RCMP officers gunned down in Moncton on June 4. Two other officers were wounded.
The first section of the race, known as the Red Mile, was dedicated to Larche, who was planning to run this year.
Five years ago, Larche's two children and pregnant wife carried "Go daddy go" signs as he ran the course.
"This year it was supposed to be our three daughters," said Nadine Larche.
RCMP and Saint John Police officers saluted runners as they went by Sunday morning.
Race organizers asked runners and spectators to wear red — whether clothing or a ribbon.
Larche's longtime friend, Saint John Police Const. Don Shannon, painted red strips on the road Saturday to mark the start and end of the Red Mile.
Nadine Larche said her husband probably would have been a little embarrassed by all of the attention.
On Friday, Justin Christien Bourque, 24, pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
