A firefighter was injured when responding to a call in the city’s east end on Monday night.

Firefighters were called to a detached home located at 147 Kennedy Rd., just south of Malta Street, at about 5:45 p.m.

The fire spread to the roof of the home.

The first floor was compromised and the firefighter went through the floor, suffering lower-body injuries.

It was not immediately clear if the fire had occurred at a home that is without power as a result of the ice storm.

Toronto firefighters have been inundated with calls since the storm hit on the weekend — some of which have stemmed from incidents in which people were trying to provide heat for their homes that are otherwise without power.

In a separate incident on Monday night, firefighters attended a call at a restaurant on Yonge Street, north of Sheppard Avenue, where officials say a generator was being run inside.

Four people reported feeling ill and a fire official said that the carbon monoxide level was more than twice the acceptable limit.
