Dozens of residents of a South Shore apartment building will be homeless for the Christmas holidays, after a major fire broke out in an apartment building.
The fire started Monday afternoon, and gutted the top floors of the 45-unit building on Plamondon Street, near De Navarre Avenue.
It quickly grew to a general alarm fire — about 60 firefighters were called to the scene.
Emergency crews helped about 20 people get out safely, and there were no reported injuries.
The Red Cross says it will provide temporary lodging for many residents.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
