After six months of bargaining. a tentative deal has been reached between Ontario and the union that represents many of the province's civil servants.

The Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario (AMAPCEO) said it has come to a tentative agreement with the government.

Negotiations had been put on hold during the provincial election this summer, but a tentative deal was reached now after 15 days of mediated sessions between a bargaining team and the government, said AMAPCEO

AMAPCEO President Gary Gannage said the goal of the negotiations was to ensure that employees' "current rights were retained."

In late March the union received a 94 per cent vote in favour of a strike.

Bargaining Team Chair Dianne Colville said the efforts of an engaged membership allowed the bargaining team to "stand its ground against the employer's drastic proposals."
