Many people were left doing a double-take at Toronto City Hall when EDM artist Deadmau5 met with Mayor Rob Ford to talk...coffee?
Various photos emerged on Twitter showing Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, and Ford together but neither party mentioned what exactly was discussed. However, later on CTV News reported the meeting was for Ford to appear on an upcoming episode of Deadmau5's "Coffee Run" webseries.
After his meeting with Ford, Deadmau5 tweeted the following:
Later Monday afternoon Ford posted a photo of himself with Deadmau5:
Ford's initial tweet resulted in Deadmau5 issuing the following reply:
The photo earned condemnation from one person towards Deadmau5 claiming "the gays hate you now! Your music is dead in our clubs." "Whatever you say," Deadmau5 replied. Some additional tweets from others also took the same viewpoint criticizing Deadmau5 for meeting Ford given previous statements the Mayor has made.
Various beat reporters from Toronto newspapers and media outlets also tweeted on the meeting with Deadmau5 saying "We were just hanging out" regarding the meeting with Ford. Globe and Mail reporter Kaleigh Rogers wrote the musician was asked if he was a fan of the mayor and if he supported Ford. "Sure," Deadmau5 said to both questions. Later Deadmau5 replied to a tweet stating he was a "moron" for meeting Ford.
Deadmau5 has a show slated for the Dominican Republic on Aug. 2 before European dates later in the month. He recently headlined at the Festival D'ete De Quebec in Quebec City.
