Buying pot is normally a subtle affair, but not for Mike Boyer, who camped out to become the first person to legally purchase marijuana in Washington state.
Inside Spokane Green Leaf, Washington’s first legal recreational marijuana store, Boyer proudly held two bags of weed and what appears to be a pipe over his head in celebration, while a local television filmed the entire sequence.
“This day and age, major history events like this don’t really happen too often, so I had an opportunity to be part of it so I jumped on it — seize the day,” Boyer told CBC Radio’s As It Happens.
But then, buzzkill.
One of Boyer’s clients saw him on TV, and the security company he worked for fired him. To find out what happened next — don’t worry, it’s a happy ending — check out the full As It Happens interview, on the left.
Oh, and how’s the weed in Washington state? “It’s the evergreen state, and we’re not talking about the pine trees,” Boyer said.
“We’ve got pretty good product up here.”
