We're going to admit right off the bat here that we completely failed the totally NSFW quiz, "Fashion Or Porn." (Can you do worse than 2 out of 40?)
NSS magazine posted the (again, NSFW) quiz on their website which tests your ability to distinguish between fashion photos and pornography. The test shows a small photo from which you base your decision on and once you pick your choice, the full high-res photo is revealed which can result in either a controversial fashion photo or a lot of graphic hard-core content (hello private parts!).
While it can result in some hilarious, if blush-worthy, moments, the quiz also speaks to the fact that sometimes there are a lot of blurred lines between fashion photography and pornography.
Some of the photos in the quiz included advertisements featuring scantily-clad women being pawed by fully-clothed men and pics of women wearing crop tops that show off most of their breasts.
Showing women in compromising positions isn't new in the fashion world: Some of the most questionable and maybe degrading photos come from respected fashion houses such as Tom Ford (naked woman holds a perfume bottle in between her breasts and genitals); Diesel (tells bikini-clad women to "be stupid") and Yves Saint Laurent (naked woman lying down with her back arched up).
Whatever results you get, the proof is undeniable: The fashion industry is veering too much into being pornography.
What do you think? Are fashion ads too pornographic? Are they degrading to women? Sound off in the comments below.
