A sinkhole big enough to swallow a person opened up right in the middle of downtown Montreal on De La Montagne Street on Saturday afternoon.
The sinkhole appeared just a few days after Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre announced his plans to do a $80-million overhaul of Ste-Catherine Street, including major repairs to the street's aging underground infrastructure.
Coderre said this week that that underground repair work is a perfect opportunity to revamp the street level as well.
“We have to renew all the infrastructure, but I think Ste-Catherine deserves more than just to change a pipe,” Coderre said on Tuesday.
