Toronto issued an extreme cold weather alert on Monday, which arrived days before the official start of winter.
The cold was unavoidable for anyone who had to head outside, even if only for a brief period.
Nic Carriere was outside Monday working with a crew that was surveying for a new bike path.
"I have like, six layers on — I have two shirts, two sweaters and a jacket on," said Carriere, who was mostly keeping warm aside from his toes feeling cold at times.
By the mid-afternoon, the mercury had only made its way up to -8 C at Pearson International
Airport, according to data posted to the Environment Canada website.
Prior to that, the temperature was -11 C or lower throughout the morning — and it was returning to those lows on Monday evening.
