Prime Minister Stephen Harper's pick for federal privacy watchdog is appearing before a parliamentary committee this morning before his nomination is confirmed by the Senate a few hours later.

Daniel Therrien's appointment has raised the ire of the Opposition New Democrats and 30 privacy experts who say he is not qualified for the job.

CBCNews.ca is carrying Therrien's testimony at committee LIVE starting at 11 a.m. ET.

Therrien, a longtime lawyer who now works as assistant deputy attorney general for the Justice Department, has been credited by the federal government for crafting privacy rules around the sharing of information under the Canada-U.S. Beyond the Border deal.
