BEAUPRE, Que. - Parti Quebecois Leader Pauline Marois has lost her riding of Charlevoix-Cote-de-Beaupre.
Marois garnered about 33 per cent of the vote and was defeated by the Liberals' Caroline Simard, who took home 35 per cent in Monday's election.
It was a disappointing night all round for Marois as she saw her party reduced to about 30 seats in the 125-member national assembly.
Marois later announced she will quit as PQ leader.
Marois won the riding northeast of Quebec City in 2012 with 40.7 per cent of the vote.
She had represented the region since 2007.
