The veteran officer who was shot in a Brampton, Ont., courthouse two days ago is now out of intensive care.

Peel Regional Police Const. Mike Klarenbeek was wounded Friday morning, when a 46-year-old man walked into the courthouse and opened fire.

That man was subsequently shot dead by police. His name has not been released.

Klarenbeek, 53, was providing security at the courthouse.

On Sunday, Peel Regional Police tweeted that Klarenbeek was no longer in intensive care and that the injured officer was "continuing to improve in hospital."

The courthouse is slated to reopen Monday morning:

The incident remains under investigation by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit.

The SIU probes all incidents involving police in which individuals are killed, seriously injured or when allegations of sexual assault are raised.
