What was once a beacon for boats is now a casualty of the most powerful storm to hit Canada's East Coast in 10 years.

The Church Point Lighthouse no longer stands in St. Mary's Bay after the storm battered the Maritime provinces with winds gusting at up to 172 km/h, CBC News reported.

The lighthouse was blown off its concrete footing, with debris falling by the side of a cliff, Dan Robichaud, owner of the nearby UJ Robichaud TIM-BR Mart, told the network.

Here's what the lighthouse used to look like:

And here's what it looks like now. Robichaud posted photos of the fallen landmark to his Twitter account:

The 20-foot lighthouse, a pepper-shaker-style tower with a red lantern at its summit, was built in 1874.

The light was discontinued in 1984 and the site was later maintained by Université Sainte-Anne in Pointe-de-l'Église, according to LighthouseFriends.com.

Ornithology students at the university would use it as a bird-watching station, said CBC News.
