Yesterday's snowstorm is being blamed for two deaths on Quebec roads.

In Bellechase on Route 279, a 23-year-old woman died after losing control of her car in a curve late yesterday afternoon.

She ended up in the opposite lane, colliding with a snow removal vehicle.

In Villeroy near Quebec City, a 49-year-old woman from Victoriaville died after being hit by a car along Highway 20.

She and her travelling companion had gotten out of their vehicle to help another motorist who'd had an accident.

They were then struck by an oncoming car.

The other victim — a 51-year-old woman — is in critical condition.

Snowplow driver faces charges in Mauricie

An 18-year-old woman was seriously injured in a collision between her van and a snowplow Saturday night on Highway 157 in Notre–Dame–du–Mont–Carmel in Mauricie.

The snowplow driver — a man in his 40s — faces charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The woman — whose life was not in danger as of this morning — was a passenger in the van, driven by a 21-year-old man.

According to police, the snowplow driver allegedly did not properly signal, and the driver of the van was unable to avoid the collision.

The snowplow driver was briefly detained and then released.
