Devan Dubynk was picked up in a trade by the Montreal Canadiens for future considerations on Wednesday, an apparent insurance policy if goaltender Carey Price is out long term.
Dubnyk is 11-18-1 this season in 34 total games in the NHL. He played 32 of those with Edmonton, before being traded to Nashville in January.
The Predators waived him earlier this week when Pekka Rinne returned from a long-term injury.
Montreal netminder Price has yet to play for the Canadiens since returning from a gold-medal win with Canada at the Sochi Games. The club said Price aggravated a lower-body injury suffered during the Olympic tournament.
Peter Budaj will start his fifth straight game for Montreal on Wednesday in Anaheim. Dustin Tokarski has been backing up Budaj since the Price injury.
